London City Airport Taxi & Minicab Guide

Local context, transport connections and practical details for your next cab journey.

The photograph shows a wide aerial view of London City Airport, looking westwards along the single runway, with the River Thames and surrounding docklands clearly visible. In the centre of the image is the airport’s runway (09/27), running roughly east–west and occupying a long, narrow strip of reclaimed land. The runway markings, centreline, threshold markings, and touchdown zone markings are clearly visible, as is the paved apron area at the eastern end. The runway is flanked on both sides by water, emphasising the airport’s distinctive island-like setting. To the north and south of the runway lie the waters of the Royal Albert Dock and King George V Dock, forming straight, canal-like expanses of water that frame the airfield. Along the dock edges are industrial quays, warehouses, and modern commercial buildings, some of which have been redeveloped into offices and residential blocks. Roads and light industrial areas run parallel to the docks. In the background, the London skyline dominates the horizon. The cluster of high-rise buildings at Canary Wharf is clearly identifiable, with its dense group of glass-and-steel office towers standing prominently above the surrounding urban landscape. Further beyond, additional skyscrapers from the City of London and the wider metropolitan area are visible, creating a layered cityscape that recedes into the distance. This photograph was taken from a drone flying over Albert Island, east of the airport. The airport was closed at the time (as it normally between 1pm Saturday and 12.30pm Sunday), and permission to make the drone flight was given from Air Traffic Control.Alexander Baxevanis / Wikimedia Commons / CC BY 4.0 · Wikimedia Commons · CC BY 4.0

Know the Airport Connection

London City Airport is in east London and is served by the Docklands Light Railway. The official transport page publishes a terminal-building postcode of E16 2PX and a separate terminal-cab-park postcode of E16 2PB.

Choose the Actual Road Journey

The airport distinguishes pick-up and drop-off arrangements. Use the operator-confirmed collection location rather than substituting the terminal postcode for every road manoeuvre; the airport also provides DLR guidance if comparing a public-transport connection with a cab.

Flight Details, Luggage and Readiness

For a London City Airport taxi or minicab enquiry, provide the flight number, date and London-time details as well as the airport destination. Explain the party size and luggage before asking the operator to confirm the vehicle. For an arrival, landing, reclaiming bags and being ready to meet are different moments; agree how readiness and any waiting will be handled. For departure, follow the airline's check-in requirements and discuss the proposed pickup with the operator. Ask for the complete proposed price and airport meeting instructions before accepting a booking.

Local Taxi & Minicab Questions

Which London City Airport Postcode Should I Use?

The airport lists E16 2PX for the terminal and E16 2PB for the terminal car park and pick-up area. Follow the current instructions for the actual collection or drop-off.

Does the DLR Mean an Elizabeth Line Train Reaches the Terminal?

The airport is served by the DLR, which connects with other TfL services. Plan any interchange explicitly rather than assuming every connected line stops at the terminal.

Can a Terminal Drop-off Plan Be Reused for Passenger Collection?

The airport publishes separate pick-up and drop-off guidance, including a car-park reference for collection. Confirm the current arrangement with the operator; a departing passenger forecourt plan should not be carried over automatically to an arrival.
